Glencore Canada Sponsors the Canadian Mining Games

posted: 03/04/2024

Glencore Canada was proud to sponsor the 34th edition of the Canadian Mining Games, which was hosted at Laurentian University in Sudbury from March 7 to 9, 2024.

The Canadian Mining Games are an annual competition providing an opportunity for mining engineering students from across Canada to showcase their mining knowledge, problem-solving and adaptive capabilities through a variety of challenges. Student delegations from a dozen Canadian universities were able to test their knowledge and skills through a variety of mining-related competitions.

We extend our congratulations to the overall winners of the event:

1st place: The University of British Columbia
2nd place: University of Alberta
3rd place: McGill University

Our employees who make up our Mine Rescue team at Sudbury INO – Eric Perreault, André Lefebvre, Alyssa Spry, Bleir Millions and Fern Roy – collaborated on creating four dynamic events for students to demonstrate a few of the key skills required in a mine rescue situation.

Nicholas Clarizio and Christina Leader, human resources professionals, spoke with mining engineering students at a job fair to conclude the Canadian Mining Games.

The Canadian Mining Games  concluded with a job fair where human resource representatives Nicholas Clarizio, Christina Leader and Iyo Grenon were able to meet students and outline Glencore Canada’s role as one of the country’s most diverse miners and our contribution to the circular economy through the recycling of metals.

Thank you to our colleagues at Sudbury INO and Ontario Mine Rescue, who put together a dynamic Mine Rescue competition. Both students and sponsors were impressed with the four-part scenario that included rope skills, air bag control, CPR, and a forced entry simulator. It was the highlight competition and garnered A LOT of positive feedback from the competitors. Events like this really attract students to explore the mining industry.
