Environment
The Horne Smelter is aware of the growing regulatory pressures and societal demands for a low-emissions economy to address global climate change. It is working to integrate this approach into its existing resource management programs within its facilities.
It complies with all applicable laws, regulations and other requirements relating to environmental management. Where these are less stringent than our own standards, we seek to exceed regulatory requirements wherever possible.

From 2005 to the present day, we have invested significant sums in optimising our facilities. These investments have supported a number of concrete projects, including the addition of eleven storage domes, the installation and optimization of dust collectors, the paving of traffic lanes, improvements to capture systems, and the management of internal transport.
We have made real progress in reducing our atmospheric emissions and will continue to do so:
- In 2024, the average annual concentration of arsenic in ambient air was
39.1 ng/m³, down 46.5% since 2022 - below the regulatory ceiling of 45 ng/m³. - 99% of Rouyn-Noranda's urban area has an arsenic concentration in ambient air equal to or less than 15 ng/m³.
