Matagami Monitoring Committee

The Matagami mining camp operated from 1963 to 2022. In the ongoing decommissioning and remediation of the site, Glencore Canada is committed to complying with the strictest industry standards and all applicable provincial and federal regulations. In accordance with the current legislation, Article 101.0.3 of the Mining Act, the Matagami Legacy Site has instated a Monitoring Committee.

The general mandate of this committee is to provide a platform for dialogue, sharing of information, and inquiries about the activities and operations of the Matagami Mine, as well as their impacts and benefits. The committee has annual meetings that provide visibility on the progression of the remediation projects that will evolve the site so that it may be returned to its highest and best post mining use.

The Matagami Monitoring Committee is composed of volunteers who are residents of Matagami aged 18 years or older that are representative of the economic community, local municipalities, regional county municipalities, and Indigenous communities in Matagami. Citizens that meet the criteria who wish to volunteer to be on the committee may contact: communautematagami@glencore.ca.
