Visit the Horne Smelter
Discover the secrets of copper processing by visiting one of the world’s most specialized smelters. You’ll begin your visit in the impressive guest house, where prominent figures in mining, metallurgy, and politics stayed at the turn of the century. Next, you’ll head to the metallurgical installations where the Horne Mining Museum will share the secrets of the history of Edmund Horne, the prospector behind the discovery of the huge copper and gold deposit that bears his name.
Moving on, you’ll visit the heart of the copper processing operations at the smelting plant, where you’ll see copper flow. The vastness of this metallurgical plant reflects the importance of its industrial activities for the city of Rouyn-Noranda and the entire province. It’s an impressive tour you’ll remember!
