Raglan Mine Wins the National John T. Ryan Trophy for the Second Consecutive Year

On April 29, Raglan Mine won the 2020 National John T. Ryan Trophy for best health and safety performance in the Metal Mine category. This is the second consecutive year and third year overall in nearly 25 years of operations that we’ve received this prestigious Canadian award from the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum (CIM).

We tied for this award with Mine Matagami, also a Glencore company, having been recognized as the two metal mines with the lowest reportable accident frequency in 2020 across the country. These exceptional performances by our two facilities demonstrate the undeniable importance Glencore places on adopting the highest health and safety standards.

In 2020, Raglan Mine’s staff carried out over 69,000 actions to prevent work accidents.

About the John T. Ryan Trophy

In 1941, the Canadian mining industry was making every effort possible to produce metals and minerals for war supplies. Given the work environment at the time, it was important to optimize safe production. In recognition of these achievements, the Mine Safety Appliances organization suggested that the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum create an award. The first award, named the John T. Ryan Trophy in honour of the founder of Mine Safety Appliances, was given to the Chesterville mine near Virginiatown, Ontario.
