The General Status of Metallurgy in the Era of Energy and Digital Transition
The Bonaventure Hotel hosted the 5th edition of the General Status of Metallurgy on November 3-4, 2022 in Montreal. Some 250 participants were able to discuss the challenges and issues facing the industry in a context of rapid transformation.
The event, moderated by journalist Stéphan Bureau, brought together a number of speakers and panelists who contributed to the strategic reflection on the following themes: digital transformation, equity/diversity and inclusion, workforce attractiveness, social dialogue, and the energy shift.
The General Status concluded with the Leaders' Table, a panel featuring nine industry leaders, including Marie-Pier Bédard, Chief Operating Officer at Horne Smelter, and Marc Bédard, Head of Metallurgical Assets Zinc & Lead, who took turns speaking on the workforce and the global energy context.
How can we increase the representation of certain groups, including women and people with disabilities, in our industry? The key to diversity in production, technical services and management functions is, among other things, to modernize and robotize the industry.
Marie-Pier Bédard - Chief Operating Officer at the Horne Smelter
Maintaining our metallurgical industry in Quebec and Canada is crucial in the current geopolitical context. The importance of the Horne Smelter, the last one in North America to supply several strategic metals such as copper, platinum, palladium, tellurium, etc., must be better understood in order to prevent a lack of natural resources necessary for the energy transformation that Canada wishes to carry out.
Marc Bédard - Head of Metallurgical Assets, Zinc & Lead
