Pre-closure work

Pre-closure work took place between February and July 2024. This is the first stage in the Horne Smelter's environmental project to completely restore the site.

    • Tailings facility

      A tailings facility comprises all the equipment, engineering structures and components used together to manage solid mine tailings and the water they contain.

    • Quémont 2

      The Quémont 2 tailings facility is located north of the Horne Smelter facilities, accessible via the Osisko road/bypass. This tailings facility was commissioned in 1949.

    • Glencore standards

      1. Identify, understand and eliminate or minimise risks. 
      2. Meet the requirements of our policy on waste management facilities.
      3. Comply with the Global Industry Standard for Tailings Management.
