EVR mine rescue teams put in outstanding performance at B.C. Provincial Mine Rescue and First Aid Competition

The mine rescue teams representing Elk Valley Resources (EVR) had an outstanding showing at the 67th annual B.C. Provincial Mine Rescue and First Aid Competition–placing first overall in both the Surface Mine Rescue and Three-person First Aid categories.

This annual competition, held June 6-7 at the Britannia Mine Museum, brought together 16 teams from around the province who competed in challenges testing their essential emergency response skills, including firefighting, first aid and rope rescue in simulated conditions. Mine rescue team members are an elite group with specialized skills and training and serve as the mine’s fire department, paramedics and high angle rescue teams.

Taking home first place in the overall Surface Mine Rescue category was the team from EVR’s Line Creek Operations, with team members Harley Marshall (Captain), Kyle Brennan (Vice Captain), Jay Marshall, Kenan Ligertwood, Kyle Laboucane, JP Wallin, Coleen O’Neill, Alex Isaacs (Emergency Response Coordinator), Patrick Sorensen (Coach) and Shaun Kennedy (Coach)

The trophy in the Three-person First Aid competition went to the EVR team from our Fording River Operations, with team members Jared Willett (Captain), James Dixon, Chris Olsen, Vaughn Willett (Coach) and Danica Newham (Coach)

A special honourable mention goes to the Three-person First Aid team from EVR’s Greenhills Operations for placing second overall with team members Jordan Halladay (Captain), Josh Prince, Kevin Edwards, Ethan Lukkar, Dylan Gray (Emergency Response Coordinator) and Terry Halladay (Coach).
