EVR mine rescue teams deliver exceptional performance at the B.C. Provincial Mine Rescue and First Aid Competition

Sparwood, B.C. – The mine rescue teams representing Elk Valley Resources (EVR) delivered an exceptional performance at the 68th annual B.C. Provincial Mine Rescue and First Aid Competition–with Line Creek Operations placing first overall in both the Surface Mine Rescue and Three-person First Aid categories.

This annual competition held May 22 - 23 in Penticton, brought together 16 teams from around the province, including teams from Line Creek, Greenhills and Elkview who competed (Surface and Underground) in challenges testing their essential emergency response skills, including firefighting, extrication, practical skills, first aid and rope rescue in simulated conditions. 

“We are incredibly proud of our mine rescue and first aid team members across our operations and their impressive performance at the B.C. Provincial Mine Rescue and First Aid Competition,” said Mike Carrucan, CEO, EVR. “Our results once again reflect their commitment to excellence in emergency response and ensures that our people and communities can rely on our teams to support them in the event things unfortunately go wrong.”

For the second year in a row, EVR took top honours; Line Creek Operations placed first in the overall Surface Mine Rescue category and first place in the Three-person First Aid competition. Greenhills Operations placed second in the Three-person First Aid category. 

In 2025, a Line Creek Operations team placed first overall in the Surface Mine Rescue category and a Fording River Operations team won the Three-person First Aid competition.
