Glencore's CEZinc refinery plays a role in the supply chain behind one of hockey’s most iconic objects: the puck. At our Salaberry-de-Valleyfield refinery, zinc concentrate undergoes a complex metallurgical process to become high-purity zinc. Some of this zinc is then shipped to a customer who processes it into zinc oxide. This material is used in numerous industrial applications, notably the vulcanization of the rubber used to manufacture Inglasco hockey pucks.
The zinc produced by CEZinc continues its journey through a specialized manufacturing chain in Sherbrooke, where Inglasco – the exclusive supplier of pucks used by the National Hockey League – transforms the rubber into finished form. Behind an object that appears as simple as a puck lies a wealth of metallurgical and manufacturing expertise to which CEZinc contributes.
