XPS (Expert Process Solutions - Glencore Canada Corporation) is a team of Engineers & Technicians who are world-renowned experts in orebody characterisation, flowsheet development, operational support, growth initiatives, process simulation & modelling and asset integrity management for most commodities including gold, nickel, copper, zinc, PGEs, rare earth and industrial minerals in the mining industry.  We comprise of seven integrated business groups representing the following key disciplines: Mineral Processing, Mineral Science, Pyrometallurgy, Hydrometallurgy, Process Simulation & Modelling, Process Control and Materials Technology.

We have an exciting opportunity for a skilled Senior Mineral Processing Engineer in our Mineral Processing Group based in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada. We focus on providing support for both the long-term strategic growth and shorter-term plant operational needs of companies requiring expertise from all over the world 

The group is well equipped to address metallurgical needs through on-site plant support, process modelling and mineral processing test work on both a laboratory and pilot plant scale. The use of our in-house QEMSCAN technology is unique to our flowsheet development and plant optimisation solutions. 

The candidate will contribute to client’s projects through:

  • Practical and theoretical knowledge of processes, laboratory and/or pilot scale test work incorporating grinding, gravity, magnetic separation and flotation of polymetallic base metal ores and light element ores of lithium and graphite
  • Incorporation of quantitative mineralogy and geometallurgy in flowsheet development and plant optimisation/troubleshooting
  • Flow sheet and process design criteria development for new projects or plant expansions
  • Performing techno-economic analysis to enhance project economics
  • Performing due diligence audits, managing scoping studies, pre-feasibility and feasibility studies in multidisciplinary teams

The primary functions of the Senior Engineer/Metallurgist:

  • Provide metallurgical expertise for all aspects of projects and studies to our key clients routinely to positively impact efficiency, growth and value
  • Outstanding business development skills to identify and create new business opportunities
  • Participate and promote XPS expertise in the mineral processing sector
  • Development of flow sheets
  • Expertise in process optimisation and debottlenecking analysis & design in existing operations
  • Prepares projects technical and financial proposals
  • Prepares interim and final technical reports as required for internal & external stakeholders
  • Controls project budgets and prepares billing information for invoicing
  • Carries out pilot plant project planning, co-ordination and executing including risk assessments, technical protocols, sample planning and technical training
  • Interpretation of laboratory and pilot results and assisting clients in development of test work programs
  • Follows all Health & Safety policies and regulations at all times
  • Provide and develop knowledge and expertise for our clients and share his/her existing knowledge with the team (educate and mentor)
  • Develop innovative solutions with an entrepreneurial spirit
  • Occasional domestic and international travel is a requirement of this role


  • A degree in metallurgical, chemical engineering or related degree and/or related experience
  • A minimum of 8 years of relevant work experience in Mineral Processing discipline; mining industry is an asset
  • Professional Engineer designation
  • Demonstrates the ability to write complex technical reports
  • Operations and consulting experience would be considered a major asset
  • Must be self-motivated and have the ability to multi-task; results oriented
  • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills, with a keen attention to detail
  • High ethical standards, accountability and integrity
  • Proven initiative and self-motivation, a positive “can-do” attitude
  • Strong knowledge of MS Office Suite or equivalent products
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proven time management skills and strong attention to detail
